MISSION

Camp More empowers people who stutter to do more, say more, and be more. Through transformative, community-centered experiences, participants build confidence, authentic communication, and meaningful connections. Our supportive, inclusive environment is led by professionals with holistic expertise in stuttering,  strengthened by adult staff and volunteers with shared lived experiences, and enriched by future professionals who receive immersive, hands-on training. Together, we celebrate communication diversity and foster a vibrant, resilient community.

PHILOSOPHY

Camp More is grounded in the lived experiences of people who stutter and affirms stuttering as a natural and valid form of human communication across the lifespan. We serve children, teens, and adults by creating inclusive spaces where diverse communication styles are respected, supported, and celebrated.

Our approach recognizes that no two experiences with stuttering are the same. Some experiences are empowering and affirming, others are shaped by stigma, misunderstanding, or communication bias, and all are valid. Camp More intentionally meets participants where they are, designing programs that are flexible, responsive, and attentive to each person’s identity, history, and communication needs.

Camp More fosters a community of people who stutter and stutter-affirming allies who value patience, listening, and authentic expression. Within this environment, participants are encouraged to speak openly about their identities, emotions, and experiences with stuttering, free from pressure to conform to fluency-based norms.

We believe intergenerational connection is essential to empowerment. Children benefit from seeing teens and adults as confident role models; teens grow through leadership and being examples; adults discover purpose in advocacy and mentorship; and all find meaning in community and representation. Together, these relationships strengthen belonging, confidence, and positive identity development at every age.

Camp More embraces a holistic approach to learning and professional preparation. Future speech-language pathologists and professionals gain hands-on, experiential training that emphasizes autonomy, whole-person well-being, and respect for communication diversity, recognizing that effective support extends far beyond fluency-focused goals.

Rather than prioritizing speech fluency, Camp More centers its work on the pillars of community, communication, and confidence. We empower participants to do more, say more, and be more, while honoring stuttering as an integral part of who they are. Through partnerships with families, adults who stutter, universities, and community organizations, we are building a growing network of ambassadors committed to creating a more inclusive, stutter-friendly world.
